Italy grants $3.8m to Viet Nam SMEs

The Italian Government will support SME cluster development in Viet Nam with more than US$3.87 million in the form of a technical assistance grant during 2009-2011.

The funds are for the SME Cluster Development project, the agreement for which was signed here yesterday by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Embassy of Italy and the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

Greater access promised to Japanese markets

Vietnamese exporters can hope to increase their sales to the Japanese market after the signing of the Viet Nam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement in Tokyo last Thursday.

The agreement is expected to go into effect early next year, after the two countries complete ratification procedures.

SMEs to get 30 per cent cut in corporate tax

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Tuesday issued a series of instructions for putting new Government tax policies into effect.

The Government announced the policies to reduce corporate tax and extend tax-payment deadlines last December.

Under MoF instruction, as of March 29 this year, small – and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will enjoy a corporate tax cut of 30 per cent for the fourth quarter of last year, and all of 2009. Companies have nine months to pay taxes.

Stimulus plan aims to boost small business

Both the Government and companies, particularly small- and medium-sized ones, are working to prevent further economic failures amid the global financial crisis.

The Government’s VND17 trillion (US$1 billion) stimulus package has recently been implemented, under which the Government would pay 4 per cent of any commercial loans taken out by vital small – and medium-sized businesses.
